The Winston-Salem Foundation welcomes (l-r), David Barksdale, Richard Gottlieb, and Keith Vest to The Winston-Salem Foundation Committee, the Foundation’s primary governing body.
David Barksdale is president and chief Executive Officer of Piedmont Federal Bank, a mutual savings bank founded in Winston-Salem in 1903. Barksdale has spent most of his career in North Carolina community banking with roles in credit administration, sales leadership, and strategy. Current and previous community involvement includes the Boy Scouts, United Way of Forsyth County, Rotary Club of Winston-Salem, Leadership North Carolina, NC Bankers Association, ABA Mutual Council, and the Board of Visitors for High Point University and North Carolina A&T State University.
Richard Gottlieb served as president and CEO of Senior Services for 36 years until he retired in 2017. During his tenure the Meals on Wheels operation grew from serving 95 meals a day to 1,200 a day, the volunteer corps grew from 300 to 2,200, and Senior Services won the Claudette and Joel Weston Award for nonprofit excellence three times. Gottlieb has served on a variety of community boards including Hospice of Winston-Salem, Salemtowne Retirement Community, Winston Salem State University, and Old Salem. He’s also served as president of the Rotary Club of Winston-Salem and chairman of the board of the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits.
Keith Vest has spent the last 20 years leading businesses that specialize in brand innovation, advertising, and design. Keith founded award-winning design and production agency PAVE Creative Group in 1999. He co-founded The Variable in 2011, recognized three times as AdAge Southeast Small Agency of the Year, and Sunshine Beverages in 2017, a better-for-you energy drink brand. Keith previously served as board chair at Cancer Services and trustee at Ardmore Moravian Church. Current leadership roles include serving as chairman of The Variable, partner at 100watt, and advisory board member for both Jenni Earle and the Camel City Crusher.
The Foundation is most appreciative of the leadership of Alison Ashe-Card and Wendy Brenner who rotated off the committee in December.
The Winston-Salem Foundation celebrates its board officers who are taking on leadership roles for The Winston-Salem Foundation Committee. Peggy Reingold assumes the role of Board Chair, Tom Lawson is Vice Chair, Joe Crocker is Secretary, and Alex Barrett is Treasurer.
“The Foundation serves as a convener of values-aligned organizations to tackle big challenges in this community,” said incoming board chair, Peggy Reingold. “When I think about the power of collaboration and partnerships, I’m reminded of the Ethiopian proverb: when spiderwebs unite, they can tie up a lion. It always inspires me that if we put our resources together, we can not only meet immediate needs, but achieve lasting solutions that strengthen our community for year to come.”
