The Winston-Salem Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 Forsyth County Teacher Grants to support professional development opportunities for K-12th grade teachers in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
Recipients were selected by a committee comprised of professional educators who make awards in support of innovative and results-oriented educational experiences for teachers to improve their teaching ability and enhance the subject or content being taught in the classroom.
A total of $70,496.83 was granted to the following 36 teacher grant recipients:
- Tonya Allison – Ward Elementary School – $1,331 to complete Orff Schulwerk Level Three
- Tammy Barnes – Piney Grove Elementary School – $2,280 to attend the Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Conference
- Carrie Bennett – Mount Tabor High School – $2,500 to attend the National Council on Social Studies Conference
- Kimberly Borger – Meadowlark Elementary School – $2,187.57 to participate in hands-on music learning to improve teaching group performances
- Connie Brake – WS/FCS Instructional Services – $1,764.55 to learn techniques for supporting low-vision students' access to literacy
- Cheryl Bullard – Meadowlark Elementary School – $2,349 to attend the Science of Reading training
- Jill Carter – Easton Elementary School – $629 to attend the Get Your Teach On Conference in Orlando, Florida
- Amy Clay – WS/FCS Instructional Services – $2,500 to attend the Conference on Pediatric Acquired Brain Injury
- Jennifer Clayton – Cash Elementary School – $2,280 to attend the Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Conference
- Tammy Hancock – Vienna Elementary School – $2,500 to attend the American Library Association Annual Conference

- Debra Troxell – West Forsyth High School – $2,500 for educational travel with Global Exploration for Educators Organization to Southeast Asia
- Anna Wade – Philo-Hill Magnet Academy – $1,500 to attend a Kodály Certification Workshop
The following endowment funds held at the Foundation provide the annual funding support for the Forsyth County Teacher Grants: the Sam and Anne Booke Family Trust, the Doris Joyce Kohfeldt Educator Fund, the Maytrice Walton Fund, and the Blanche Raper Zimmerman Fund.
