The Winston-Salem Foundation is pleased to announce record scholarship totals for the 2023-2024 academic year: more than $1.5 million has been awarded to 643 students seeking post-secondary education in North Carolina, the Southeast, and beyond.
These awards were made possible thanks to community member donations and to the Foundation’s 150 scholarship endowment funds, which have been established by generous individuals, families, and businesses ever since the Foundation’s Student Aid program was established in 1923.
Last month we began celebrating 100 years since generous community members first joined together to financially support local students in their quest for higher education. In October 1923, just days after the tragic death of a local football player, donations poured in from across the city, and our student aid program was born. In the years since, we estimate that the Foundation’s scholarship funds have helped more than 18,000 local students pursue higher education.
