Programs for Parents

Below are some programs that help facilitate better parent-child interaction and communications about sex and sexuality. These are typically programs where an outside facilitator will present the program at your location.

Parents Matter. Parents Matter is a five-session evidence-based prevention program for parents of pre-teens (9-12). This community-level family prevention program is designed to enhance protective practices and promote parent-child discussions about sexuality and sexual risk reduction.  Local facilitators are available to provide the program for your organization. (contact information for local facilitators coming soon).  Additionally, training is available for those interested in becoming a trained facilitator of this program.

Sexplanations.  Sexplanations is a one and a half hour workshop for parents that offers up-to-date information, statistics, and communication suggestions for effectively discussing sexuality with their children.  Contact James Jessup.

Are you an ASKable parent? Are You an Askable Parent provides parents with sensitive, culturally appropriate information and methods to increase communication with their children, with special emphasis on discussing sexuality candidly, comfortably, and accurately.  This fun and educational workshop can be done in one or multiple sessions and is tailored to fit your group’s needs. For more information, contact Mary Connor-Hill at 336-373-0675.
