Teen Pregnancy Prevention Resource Center

Health Care Providers

Adolescent health care providers can play an important role by talking to youth and their parents about these issues and finding ways to make their services more accessible to all youth.  Here are some resources for providers:

Bright Futures
Bright Futures is an initiative of the American Academy of Pediatrics which provides pre-visit and supplemental risk assessment questionnaries and other resources for health care providers.  All materials are age appropriate.

Involving Health Care Professionals in Teen Pregnancy Prevention
This is a chaper from Get Organized: A Guide to Preventing Teen Pregnancy, a practical manual for people who are interested in taking action to prevent teen pregnancy in their communities.   Get Organized  was produced by The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unintended Pregnancies, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Guidelines For Adolescent Preventive Services (GAPS)
The AMA's Guidelines for Adolescent Preventive Services is a comprehensive set of recommendations that provides a framework for the organization and content of preventive health services. The GAPS recommendations were designed to be delivered ideally as a preventive services package during a series of annual health visits between the ages of 11-21.

North Carolina School Community Health Alliance
The North Carolina School Community Health Alliance serves as the central connecting point for school health centers and their professional staffs. It leads the way in making school health centers an established part of the North Carolina health care system, and works to make them financially sustainable.

Tool Kit for Teen Healthcare, Second Edition
The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Tooll Kit for Teen Care is designed to assist clinicians and health care providers in caring for adolescent patients. Developed by the ACOG Committee on Adolescent Health Care, the kit is designed to help clinicians incorporate adolescent primary and preventive health care into their practices and to provide the necessary resources.
