Youth Resources

Here are a number of online resources where young people (or their parents) can find honest, medically accurate, unbiased health information directed specifically to youth.

Amplify- Youth Education and Action
A project by Advocates For Youth, Amplify Your Voice is an interactive website that serves as a vehicle for youth-led grassroots activism around sexual and reproductive health.

Bedsider
Created by The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, Bedsider is designed with older adolescents (late teens-early twenties) in mind. Bedsider includes relationship advice, information to help select an appropriate contraceptive method, and even a birth control reminder tool.

BrdsNBz Text Message Warm Line
BrdsNBz is APPCNC's sexual health text message service for North Carolina teenagers. Teens who use the service can get medically accurate, personalized answers to questions about sex, relationships, and their bodies via text message.

It’s Your Sex Life
It’s Your Sex Life (IYSL) is a website made by MTV that provides information on HIV, STIs/STDs and pregnancy prevention.  It also has a blog, updates on the television show Teen Mom, and other media related subjects.

Love is Respect
Love is Respect focuses entirely on helping young people understand the differences between healthy relationships and unhealthy relationships. The site also helps young people understand how to avoid technology dangers like sexting and online harrassment. Site includes a 24 hour live chat (IM) line for real-time, confidential information from a trained peer advocate (advocates also available by text and phone).

Sex Etc.
Sex Etc. is run by Answer at Rutgers University, and includes information on puberty, sex, LGBT issues, and relationships. It also has a teen voices section and FAQs.

Scarleteen
Scarleteen is one of the best online resources for teens and lives up to the tagline "sex ed for the real world." Scarleteen is one of the few just-for-teens resources that addresses issues that are sometimes treated as controversial, like sexual assault, LGBT health issues, or different kinds of sex. (It's important to remember that lots of young people have questions about or need to deal with these issues.)

StayTeen
Created by The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, StayTeen helps young people avoid pregnancy by helping them navigate media messages, communication skills, and negotiating abstinence and contraception.

Teen Talk
Teen Talk is a program of the Forsyth Public Health Department that provides educational sessions.  It addresses positive self-esteem, goal setting, decision making, values, peer pressure, sexuality and its responsibility, communication skills and relationships.  This program is available to young women between the ages of 9-18.  For more information call (336) 703-3269.
