The Women’s Fund of Winston-Salem’s recently released the issue brief, Teen Pregnancy and Parenting: Community Concern, Community Solutions.   The issue brief looks at the impact of teen pregnancy and early parenting on the larger community and examines how our entire community can take shared responsibility in addressing this issue.  Click here to download the report (pdf).




MAKING PROGRESS REPORT: Physical & Mental Health 2012
This report by Forsyth Futures looks at seven key health indicators in Forsyth County.  For each indicator, this report provides a description of the indicator, indicates data points used to measure the indicator, identifies key findings, and offers recommendations on how progress is made.  Teen Pregancy is one of the indicators examined.

2009 Youth Risk Behavior Survey-Forsyth County High School Full Report
The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System and the Forsyth County Department of Public Health administered the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) for the first time in March 2009.  The purpose of these reports are to identify prevalence of specific health risk behaviors; compare local youth behavior patterns to county & state data; and develop interventions to address such behaviors.  The High School survey contains information about sexual activity and risk behaviors.

North Carolina State of Adolescent Sexual Health & Action Plan
To help North Carolina reach the goal of reducing teen pregnancies 30% by 2020, the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina has released this released a new report to help you understand teen pregnancy and what you can do.  It includes helpful actions related to: Effective sexuality education; Concentrating on our most vulnerable young people; Increasing access to health care; Building parental confidence and involvement; Making health care work for teens; and empowering young people.

Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina (APPNC) Statistics
APPNC is a leader in promoting science-based approaches to pregnancy prevention and works to support North Carolina communities in preventing teenage pregnancy.  APPCNC partners with the State Center for Health Statistics in the NC Division of Public Health to disseminate the most recent data on teen pregnancies. These statistics can help you gain a sense of the numbers of pregnancies, pregnancy outcomes and demographics of pregnant teens statewide and in Forsyth County.

North Carolina Youth Risk Behavior Survey Data
In the spring of every odd numbered year, NC Healthy Schools implements a statewide Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The NC YRBS helps assess behaviors in youth that impact their health now and in the future. Topics include violence, personal safety, physical activity, nutrition , mental health, tobacco, drugs and alcohol, protective factors and sexual behavior questions (for high school students only).

The Guttmacher Institute works to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights through an interrelated program of research, policy analysis and public education designed to generate new ideas, encourage enlightened public debate and promote sound policy and program development. Guttmacher's data center provides state, national and internation data on a variety of reproductive health issues including teen pregnancy.
