The Winston-Salem Foundation Award - 2010

Douglas R. Lewis

For his ongoing interest in making this “City of the Arts” accessible to all of
Winston-Salem and for his early work in transforming facilities for the Sawtooth Center,
the Stevens Center and SECCA.

For his volunteer leadership on the boards of so many nonprofits, including Horizons
Residential Care Center, the Urban League, the Special Children’s School,
and Crisis Control Ministries.

For being an early champion of the Southeast Gateway, and for bringing together
residents from Washington Park, Happy Hill, Old Salem, UNC School of the Arts,
and Salem Academy and College to clean up and revitalize this vital area.

For seeking to reunite the city both physically and spiritually by knitting the city back
together through bridges of design in his work with the Creative Corridors Coalition.
