Sharon Baum "Shari" Covitz, PhD

1. Who are/were your role models for "giving back" to your community and how did they influence you?
My mother. She and my dad helped start an organization to raise funds for cancer research.

2. What issues impacting women & girls are you most passionate about? Do you have any personal connection to any of these issues?
The ability for young girls to have positive esteem. The ability to get an affordable higher education.

3. What would you tell other women and girls about The Women's Fund to encourage them to get involved?
 This is an organization that is open to any woman in the community so that she can effect positive change for women and girls.  It's about building women philanthropist.


4. Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am retired from Forsyth Tech where I helped raise money for scholarships, new equipment and professional development for faculty and staff. I am also President of The Development Office, a company providing fundraising counsel to small and medium not-for-profit organizations.  I currently serve on the Board of The Women's Fund, the Board of Leadership Winston-Salem, The Housing Authority of Winston-Salem Board, The SECU Family House Board, the Board of The Women's Council of Forsyth Medical Center Foundation, and I am a member of the Stratford Rotary Club.  I love to travel, play golf, read, needlepoint, paint, and play the piano.
